Author – Jackie Battenfield, “The Artist’s Guide” lecturing in Syracuse at Everson
Well over three years ago, I shared a conversation with Jackie Battenfield, a wonderful artist and long time friend, about her desire to write a book to share her experiences and expertise in how to build a career as an artist. Jackie had been coaching artists for over 15 years at the very well respected Artist in the Marketplace, (AIM) program, sponsored by the Bronx Museum program. She had also been invited to design workshops and similar programs for both Creative Capital and for the MFA program at Columbia University.Â
The Golden Foundation was delighted to be able to provide seed money to Jackie’s book project through a NYFA sponsorship program.  After a year and a half effort to incorporate all the expertise and passion that Jackie provided through her classes and coaching, she finally finished in the book “The Artist’s Guide, How To Make a Living Doing What You Love†in the summer of 2009. I have an interview with Jackie in Issue 21 of “Just Paint†for more information about this remarkable artist and teacher. This book has the power to change artists lives and we are so proud to be a small part of this incredible effort.
Jackie will be presenting a lecture, June 4th from 7 – 9 pm at the Everson Museum. The event will be co-sponsored by the Everson, Golden Artist Colors and The Sam and Adele Golden Foundation for the Arts. Following the event will be a book signing by the author. Through her warmth, good humor, and insight, Jackie shares her years of experience as a self supporting artist, making the overwhelming task of growing and sustaining an art career clear and manageable. She is amazing!
