Join a vibrant community of artists in "Abstraction Now! Jumpstart 2025," an engaging online class series designed to inspire creativity and goal-setting for the upcoming year. During two hours of five fast-paced sessions, participants will explore acrylic painting while developing personal artistic objectives. Led by Valerie Allen, Certified Working Artist for Golden Artist Colors, each class will feature journal prompts, demonstrations of various art materials and techniques, and insights into the work of contemporary acrylic artists. Participants will also take part in a creating "small works" based on a challenge, better known as homework, given at each session. These manageably sized pieces can then serve as stepping stones to larger projects. Each class will kick off with quick two-minute mini-critiques of the previous week's paintings, fostering a supportive environment for growth and feedback. Key topics include: Discovering your artistic voice through journaling Setting achievable goals for your art practice Tips for shopping for supplies Compositional strategies for effective artwork Techniques for working with a limited color palette Mark making exercises to enhance creativity Skills for capturing inspiration effectively

Waitlist only. Immerse yourself in the world of printmaking, including monotypes, collagraphs, watercolor prints, and collage fodder, during this exciting two-day workshop led by artist Valerie Allen. This workshop offers a hands-on experience using Gelli-Arts Gel Printing Plates and an Italian mini-printing press, allowing you to create spontaneous monotypes and embossed collagraphs. Valerie Allen, a Certified Golden Working Artist, will guide you through the process of using stencils, cut and torn shapes, landscape references, and natural materials to create prints with slow-drying acrylic paints and watercolors on various printing papers. Workshop will be at Fifth Street Studio in Geisler Enterprises, 1406 Pine Street, Midland, MI behind the main building at Bay 11.
