New Dates are Saturday May 18 and Sunday May 19 Be prepared to immerse yourself in the world of printmaking, including monotypes, collagraphs, watercolor prints and collage fodder. You will get hands-on experience using Gelli-Arts Gel Printing Plates and an Italian mini-printing press, allowing you to create spontaneous monotypes and embossed collagraphs. Valerie also will guide you through the process of using stencils, cut and torn shapes, landscape references and natural materials to create prints with slow-drying acrylic paints and watercolors on various printing papers. Day One -- Valerie will kick the day with demonstrations, as the class begins to explore monotypes and collagraphs. Each student will receive a Gelli-plate for their work. The Italian mini-press will be shared among participants. Collagraph plates will be crafted using textures like acrylic pastes and gels to allow for drying time in preparation for printing on Day Two. Day Two -- We will start by preparing the printing papers with unique torn edges and soaking the collagraph paper for printing. We will learn a special registration technique for the Gelli-Plates to enhance your printing experience. The day will be filled with excitement as your images come to life during the printing process. All necessary materials, including printing papers, Golden OPEN acrylics and QoR watercolor paints, gels, pastes, and brayers, will be provided for the workshop. Just bring your curiosity and creative spirit for two days of experimentation and enjoyment. Check the supply list for additional materials to bring along. **This two-day workshop will meet Saturday May 11 and Sunday May 12 from 10am-5pm. There will be in hour break for lunch.

This "A to Z of Acrylic Series Surface Module" will focus on the potential of adding a variety of surfaces to your creative process. Learn the different characteristics of painting on super smooth surfaces, underpainting with a luxurious texture, or gritty, toothy rough and ready grounds, plus many more exciting options. Certified Golden Working Artist Valerie Allen will show examples from her own portfolio as well as sample boards that visually and tactilely tell the story of the benefits for artists to consider each painting as a wonderful sandwich of layers. We will study the pastes from crackle to light, the gels both gloss and matte (from regular to extra heavy), clear tar gel for smoothness and extra coarse pumice for roughness just to name a few. This presentation is designed to pique your interest and build your confidence when purchasing art materials for future creations. A highlight of the talk will be a summary on "What's New" at Golden and an explanation of the many resources available for artists to access information online and through our Material Applications Specialists. Bring your questions and curiosity for a lively 90 minute conversation that includes a make and take painting with Val. *Guests, Please email Marilyn Meredith at marilynmeredith@wowway.com to RSVP.
